Hello to the loyal followers of the Soul Reapers mini-dex project. I've finished updating the mini-dex earlier than I expected and Playtest version 5 is ready for download!
Lots and lots of new goodness inside, including:
- New layout and Formatting
- New Artwork
- Background on the Artifacts of Salmora
- new Special Rules
- 9 new unit entries for:
* Exalted Champion of Chaos
* Harbinger of Malice
* Soul Reapers Possessed
* Soul Reapers Marine Squad
* Soul Reapers Biker Squad
* Onslaught Dreadnoughts
* Predator Mauler
* Testudo pattern Rhino
* Chaos Drop Pods added as a transport
* Forge Lords
This update should shake things up a bit, I decided it was time to be bit more ambitious! Now please remember to keep in mind this is still an uncompleted Playtest list; so it is still missing the background and unit fluff entries.
((I'd love your thoughts and feedback! Fire away guys!))
***I just updated the file @11:00 AM pacific time to fix a few formatting and spelling errors.***
Whew!
ReplyDeleteThat was a whole lot to read.
However, I was mildly disappointed that there was not more background/stories/history in the dex. I know you said there wouldn't be, but I still wanted it.
As for the possessed entry, I was running the numbers and they are about 5 to 6 points to expensive in my opinion. I really like the entry; however, I think they are a wee bit expensive. They should be closer to 30 points that 35.
Other than that, I have truly enjoyed the progress this dex has taken.
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteThe background is coming, a lot of it need refining from it's scribbled form in my Soul Reapers journal. Then it all needs to be typed and added. I really don't want to post any of the Background half-cocked. My main collaborator on the background side is deployed to Afghanistan right now, so it is slow going getting feedback on ironing out the rough spots.
To be honest about the possessed I am not sure whether they are over pointed or not. I usually have a better gauge for points, but these guys make my head hurt. I have ran them once yesterday and they were awesome.
Is there anything else that sticks out in your mind, good or bad?
Keep the feedback coming!
-Jim
I've downloaded and read through the Minidex.
ReplyDeleteWhat a huge difference between V4.0 & 5.0! :)
The new formatting, along with the new artwork and some elements of background really lifts it up (of course, I would say that), while still retaining some of the original flavour of the previous versions (e.g. border, font, etc). You can really tell you've been hard at work at this, and WHEN the final final FINAL product is released you know it's something special, and that blood, sweat & tears are part and parcel of the package.
Some things I'm going to have to point out: From a casual readers/editing point of view (or me being pernickity!), there are a few spelling mistakes (e.g. 'psychers' should be 'psykers'), apostrophe plural errors (e.g. 'Butchers Blade' should be 'Butcher's Blade' / 'Krugs armour' should be 'Krug's armour', or 'armor' for American spelling), and some inconsistent font sizes/types. The Onslaught Dreadnought entry is an example where the font changes from the one you use reverting to the standard windows times new roman, probably in error.
Also, I'm not personally fond of the usage of asterisks (*) for bullet points, as opposed to the standard black dot/squares and 'dashes' that normal 40K codices use. Asterisks can be harder to read and confusing, as they are normally used for references to editorial notes located at the footer of the page.
That been said, V.0 really stands out from a lot of Homebrew out there, and my offer still stands in the creation of a brand spanking new piece of cover artwork (illustrated, or model photoshopped) for the final version!
Thanks for the honest feedback Menzies. I have fixed and updated the formatting on the Dread, spelling on psykers and the few apostrophe issues.
ReplyDeleteThe bullets will be fixed by the time the final version is completed. I am just getting comfortable with how the special formats and stuff work in Word.
I am now getting really excited to get and see the final product done. The light is shining bright at the end of the tunnel. Other than tweaks from playtesting I am done with the additions and changes to units. So the next update will be focused on formatting and background/fluff.
Thanks again good buddy.
