Galaxy in Flames proudly presents:
The Soul Reapers Mini-dex
This book is an unofficial supplement for use with the Codex Chaos Space Marines. You’ll need a copy of it to use the mini-dex.
Please keep in mind that this is a bare bones playtest version of the book with the content and layout being geared towards getting the points values and Special Rules out for trial. The final version will be polished with lots of background and flavor.
So here’s what I’d like from those that are willing. Play games using the list as many times as you can and send me feedback to: galaxynflamesblog@gmail.com
The Beta testing will last from now until the end of February 2010.
I’d like to thank Menzies again for his fantastic Artwork!
Thanks again for all the support during this process.
Clarification: Xusias staff is supposed to have a 12 inch range, damn cut and paste.

Edit: I've updated the file with a better font for the text and Headers. 09:45 AM PST.
Could only manage a quick glance, but I really like what I saw so far.
ReplyDeleteI will give you a more detailed report once this week is over and I have completed Finals Week.
Just read the codex twice. I love the lore, and as far as mini-codexes go, you have a very balanced approach to it.
ReplyDeleteI think that krug is too good. Krug's potential 11 S5 attacks at I6 is utterly amazing. I would cut that back (the +d6 attacks all across the army should probably be +d3). Also, being able to kill an entire squad of nob bikers in 1 round of cc with 11 S5 4+ quasi-instant death is probably too much. And with WS7, he's going to be hitting very reliably.
Better to have a few mini-upgrades than 1 game breaking one I always say.
As far as xusia goes, his psychic power nullifying sucks. If he has only an 8 inch range, I would say he nullifies powers on a 3+ or maybe even a 2+. Compared to a vanilla librarian or inquisitor, he just sucks for nullifying powers. Aura of malevolence is both powerful, fluffy, and unique. I like it.
Vorenous is really cool, but raptors are really not. Their model height means they never get a cover save except with land raiders, and you can't deep strike on turn 1 with them. I would say any raptors (not just the squad accompanying Vorenous) gets a 5+ cover save if within 6 inches of vorenous, and the squad attached to him can deep strike on turn 1. Then maybe something like, raptors don't deviate when deep striking if within 6 inches of Vorenous. I think Vorenous is my favorite of the special characters.
Fear is for the weak is OK, but you might as well just give them fearless as they have nearly the same benefit if they take the icon of chaos glory. Give them a new icon option that is sexy and fun. Morale upgrades are boring.
Thanks for the honest feedback Paul. You make some great points.
ReplyDeleteKrug is only I5 like a standard Lord. I see your point about the potential amount of attacks though, but remember if he fluffs his dice and rolls a one he gets takes a wound, plus loses his attacks that round.
Xusias staff is supposed to have a 12 inch range, damn cut and paste. Glad you like the Aura of Malevolence power.
I’m also glad that you like Vorenous, but there is nothing that I can do about the height of the current Raptor models short of building my own custom ones. They shouldn’t deviate during DS within 6 inches as Vorenous has a personal Icon.
I totally understand where you are coming from in the Icons and Fear is for the Weak. We did consider dumping the Icon of Chaos Glory for something new, but in the end didn’t. This was the only Icon that we came up with that felt different enough to last in more than a few games in playtesting. It was 10 points just like the IoCG.
Icon of the Dark Gods: The Soul Reapers are fanatical in offering up souls to the Pantheon of Chaos.
Any unit that bears this Icon may re-roll any ones on the to hit dice in the assault phase.
I’ll make one more edit of the Document on Monday after the initial feedback is in.
Thanks again,
Jim
