Farewell Dice Like Thunder

It saddens me to say goodbye after listening to the Dice Like Thunder guys for well over 80 episodes. The show as it is now must end due to circumstances out of the current casts hands.

The good new is they cast will still be podcasting under a new name. The Eternal Warriors will be the name of their new show. The first episode should be posted up within the first week of November.

I look forward to seeing the guys get a fresh start on show that will be completely created by them for the listeners.

Good luck guys, I will be listening! Upward and Onward!

Dark Eldar are coming in October!?!

An inside source tells the guys at Dice Like Thunder that Dark Eldar will be released round October this year. They talk about this in their current episode.

This also strengthens the words of everyone's favorite Pie Man, Harry on Warseer who has implied a Games Day UK release may be in the cards.

A few tidbits from the episode:

The Dark Eldar are very fast and make great use of the deep strike rules.

Haemonculi will be able to take control of opponents run down from assault.

Jet bikes may make hit and run moves, when leaving close combat an enemy model must make a save, if failed the models is removed from the table. (being drug away by the chains attached to the bikes) On the following movement phase the DE Bikes may make a 24 inch move in a strait line and use the captured model to bomb a unit with Str 4 small blast.

The Talos is now a Walker of some sort.

Standard Salt Disclaimer applies: while interesting they my be wrong, so view it with a grain of salt.

I cannot wait to see the Dark Eldar miniatures and Codex; I say bring on October!

Dice Like Thunder talks Fandex and homebrew

Rich, Dan and the Chicago crew discuss all things Fandex and touch on Homebrew too. It's a pretty good listen, and has a few nifty ideas put forth.

DLT episode 78

Topics covered are:

#1 Do homebrew codex's have a place in the 40K game scene?
#2 If yes is it something that should be reserved only to upgrade an older codex, a weak army codex or can anything be "personalized"?
#3 How much of a change are you willing to accept; FOC changes (i.e. elite can be taken as troops, etc...), stat line and point changes, or completely new sets of rules?
#4 If someone gets to make their own codex to match their personal game style should be used to balance it off? How much?
#5 What should the source inspiration for a homebrew codex be?
#6 How do you balance a homebrew codex so it doesn't get "over the top"?

Now a warning before you listen; DLT is an adult podcast, there will be fart and other inappropriate jokes.

Galaxy in Flames update and Necron Progress report

So here is the first Necron update. I’ve built 10 Destroyers, 8 Flayed Ones, a Tomb Spyder and the first completed Warrior conversion. Above is a comparison shot for scale purposes between a Flayed One, a standard cron painted by my stepson, and the Conversion. I must say, I really like the conversion.

In total I will be converting, 40 Warriors and 16 Immortals out of the standard minis. I have 32 Necron destroyer lord torsos and Immortal Blaster arms from my time at GW, I miss being able to order bits on the cheap. I’ll be adding those parts to converted beefed up legs for the Immortals.

For the paint scheme I’ve decided to try a rust crusted metal vibe, with the rust worn off in many places showing the bare metal beneath. This pic is kinds what I am going for with a little less orange rust and more metal showing.

I decided to change the layout of the Blog as you may have noticed. I like it, but am curious to hear what you guys think.

Tomorrow I'm going to do a review of the DLT Forge Star Necron List.

Necron Players, check out DLT's Forge Star Campaign's Necron list

So my buddy and I have been wracking our brains for an effective list for the Necron army. As you may know the Necrons took a really big hit with the release of 5th edition 40k. It’s not that he wants to go win tournaments with Necrons, but he does want to have a competitive chance of winning most games.

In passing this afternoon he mentioned making an update like I am doing for the Soul Reapers. Then a like a bolt of lightning I remembered that the Guys at Dice Like Thunder my favorite podcast had made an updated Necron list in their latest campaign setting, The Forge Star.

It’s a really groovy list, it removes the Ctan but you gain three new Necron Lord choices! It also has a lot of nifty tweaks to a little more than half of the armies entries. So if you have a Necron army and want to have a lot of fun with your friends check it out!
