Rules from the Man-cave: 40k House Rules PDF

I have been asked many times to put out a list in PDF form for the house rules that we use here in the Adventures in Wargaming  Man-cave. Here is a short list of the main rules we use in our every day games. This is a living document and I will add to them over time as I transfer the hand written rules into this document.

We take a very “Old School” approach to our gaming; none of us care about the actual win or loss scenario as much as we care about having a great time with our bros creating great stories and epic memories.

Most of these rules have been posted to the blog over the years. Many have been tweaked since their initial postings. Now you can get them all in their current incarnations in a simple little PDF for ease of use.

I know that house rules are not everyone’s cup o’ tea and that is fine by me to each his own I say. If you have an open mind and decide to try these; I will assure you that if you try these that they will add loads of new tactics and fun to your games of 40k.

Enjoy,
-Big Jim

  1. A lot of those make total sense. Not digging wound allocation, but that's only because as a marine player it hurts me more. :)

  2. Thanks for the comment and feedback.

I am a marine player too, but cannot stand the way that the current rule lets you stack all of those expensive plasma shots on one dude; that does not make sense to me.

I knew that of all the rules that one would raise a few eyebrows. ;-)

  3. I always saw it as a counter balance to having lower model counts in units, but again, I'm quite biased in my opinion. :)

Also, would a rhino/chimera's Repair rule give it a +1 for its roll to remobilize after being bogged down? Seems to me that ability should still count for something :)

  4. You have only been able to stack those wounds for an edition now, that may be why it feels unnatural to me.

No Rhinos do not get a bonus to the bogged rule. Their bonus is that they can repair an immobilization from damage.

  5. I wound up starting about a month after 5th came out so to me it makes sense. lol.

Fair enough. Guess the bogged down isn't the same as being immobilized like in the standard rule.

  8. Thanks, you've got some great augments there! I really like that a unit must make an initiative check to defensively fire. I also like (though wouldn't totally adopt) your army list mods. I think one of the coolest thing about the game is HQs and special characters and it's a bummer to only have one or two. I also think allied contingents should be allowed, as you've done. Like a marine force backing up an IG army or chaos marines with guardsmen cultists. Much fun!
